A Sneak Peak of Halloween Costumes
Remember feeling like you were in an alternate universe with people dressed up weirdly, some even grotesquely but without feeling goofy? Remember seeing jack-o’-lanterns in every other yard and porch? How about the incessant knocking on your door with cheers of ‘trick or treat’? Well, you’re not alone; we are all feeling nostalgic, so here is an article to give you some insight on this eerie holiday and get you all prepared for this year’s Halloween!
Have you ever wondered precisely why wearing costumes, carving pumpkins, and trick or treating this spooky has become a tradition? Here is some insight.
Unlike popular belief, Halloween does not originate from America. These Halloween traditions actually date back to 16th century Ireland, Scotland, and England, basically modern-day the United Kingdom.
Halloween comes from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. November 1st was the Celtic new year and the beginning of winter, the day on which ghosts returned to earth for a day. To save themselves from ghosts, these people lit a big fire, wore animal skins, and carved vegetables to scare evil spirits away and leave food for them.
After the Catholic Church put All Saints Day on November 1st and All souls Day on November 2nd, All Hallows Eve moved to October 31st.
Choosing a costume
October 31st may be one of our favorite holidays, but I am sure everyone loves relishing in anticipation of Halloween even more than the holiday itself. Choosing a Halloween costume for yourself, your significant other, trying to get a squad costume put together for you and your friends, or designing an outfit for a baby if you have a little one! Even thinking about Halloween gets us all worked up!
Choosing a costume may be the most exhilarating part of Halloween, but it is also challenging to come up with unique ideas every time. Here are some interesting ideas for you to refer to:
1). Instagram Filter Costume
This costume is perhaps one that does not require much preparation. That being said, it is still unique and interesting to look at.
For this one, you just need to take a picture of your favorite filter with your rear camera, screenshot it and get it printed on a big cardboard sheet.
Later, you can cut out your face on the sheet of cardboard, wear some Halloween contact lenses by your chosen filter, dress up, and you are good to go!
Want to feel confident and sexy? There is an easy way out for this one; A superhero costume!
A superhero costume may be a classic, but it always works great for all men, women, and children. The costumes are readily available and cheap, and you can add your own twist to it as well. A little makeup and the right Halloween contact lenses paired with that costume will get you right in the mood for a good time!
3). Stranger Things Costume
Everyone practically loves Stranger Things, and who doesn’t want to dress up as a character from their favorite show?
Whether it is Eleven’s stylish geometric romper with a shoulder-length bob or Robin Scoops Ahoy’s costume that will make you feel like you can save a star court mall in style, you will be the center of attention at any Halloween party.
4). Video Games Costumes
Calling out the men (and fellow women) who just can not keep those gaming consoles down! Here is a terrific idea for you to dress up as this Halloween.
You can dress up as your favorite character from Halo, Assassin’s creed, or Overwatch. If you are more of a classic gamer, it is straightforward to find a great Mario Bros outfit. And if you are into horror games, which suits the occasion well, you can make everyone scream by dressing up as a character from Five Nights at Freddy’s.
5). Meme-inspired Costumes
With the current popularity of meme culture, it only seems fitting that a meme-inspired costume for this year’s Halloween will get you a lot of compliments.
You can easily dress up as the all-time favorite sponge bob using just yellow paint and Halloween contact lenses in blue or ‘smudge the cat’ in the ‘woman yelling at the cat’ meme. Not only will you be all ready for Halloween, but it will also be hilarious!
6). Pirate Costumes
Hook hands, peg legs, and an eye patch are all you need to invest in for this costume. You might want to work on your ‘aye matey,’ though!
Pirate costumes are classic, and they also look adorable on kids with their faux beards and tricorns.
You may pretend like you are searching for a long-lost treasure, but you will look like a gem yourself!
7). Occupation related Costumes
We all understand how difficult it might be for some people to leave work early to get ready for a Halloween party. But we have got you covered. You can go as yourself!
If you are a doctor, just keep that stethoscope and coat on, and you are good to go! If you are a police officer, don’t take off that uniform you are wearing!
However, if you want to be someone you have always wanted to be, here is your chance. You can dress up as an astronaut or a teacher or a lawyer, basically, anything you want!
These costumes are what keep the spirit of Halloween alive. Be it a vampire with bloody fangs and black Halloween contact lenses, a ghost, a zombie, or a white walker with steel-blue eyes you can achieve from Halloween contact lenses; these costumes will surely serve their purpose and spook everyone around you!
Halloween maybe six months away, but there is no reason why we can not celebrate quarantine-o-ween! Let us dress up at home, socially distancing from people but still have some fun in these difficult times.
If you are not fond of the idea, it is never too early to give some thought to your Halloween costumes!
